Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and prevention starts with healthy habits! Here are some lifestyle changes you can make to lower your risk:
- Limit Alcohol: If you choose to drink alcohol - including beer, wine or liquor - limit yourself to no more than one drink a day.
- Don’t Smoke: Evidence suggests a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women.
- Exercise: Aim to do 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity weekly, plus strength training at least twice a week.
- Control Your Weight: Strive to keep your body mass index (BMI) under 25.
Talk to your physician about additional ways you can help reduce your breast cancer risk.
