Breast Cancer Awareness MonthWomen after Breast Cancer Awareness race.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and prevention starts with healthy habits! Here are some lifestyle changes you can make to lower your risk:

  • Limit Alcohol: If you choose to drink alcohol - including beer, wine or liquor - limit yourself to no more than one drink a day.
  • Don’t Smoke: Evidence suggests a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women.
  • Exercise: Aim to do 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity weekly, plus strength training at least twice a week.
  • Control Your Weight: Strive to keep your body mass index (BMI) under 25.
Talk to your physician about additional ways you can help reduce your breast cancer risk.
