Language Access Services

The purpose of Language Access Services is to ensure that all Limited English Proficient (LEP), speech disabled, deaf and hard of hearing patients and surrogate decision-makers are able to understand their medical conditions, treatment options and receive quality patient care.

Video Remote Interpretation

When care providers do not have access to an in-person interpreter, Barton Health goes to Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) which allows patients to securely access an American Sign Language interpreter or spoken language interpreter at the push of a button. With more than 170 languages, clear communication is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Interpretation Policies:

Barton’s Language Access Services Shines Again!

Living in a diverse community that attracts visitors from all over the world, Barton often receives patients that need interpretation or assistance in a different language.

Recently, Language Access Services (LAS) at Barton took on a unique challenge. A young deaf patient needed an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter while his mother only spoke Spanish. To assist them, LAS readily provided interpreters for both the patient and his mother simultaneously.

LAS ensures that Limited English Proficient (LEP), speech disabled, deaf and hard of hearing patients and surrogate decision-makers are able to understand their medical conditions, treatment options and receive quality patient care.
